Supporting students' learning needs
At Baulkham Hills High School, we support students with disability and individualised learning needs so they can reach their learning potential in the classroom. Support can be provided at any stage, and a student does not need a formal diagnosis to receive support.
Support that fits your child's needs
We work in collaboration with parents/caregivers, students, teachers and at times medical and allied health professionals, to develop support plans that incorporate adjustments to suit each child’s needs. These plans are regularly reviewed.
Additional learning support can include:
- teachers and support staff working together with families and students
- specialist support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
-
small group tutoring to provide targeted literacy and numeracy support for students
-
regular check-ins to review and update the planned supports
-
changes to the classrooms which may include:
- accessible classrooms
- assistive technology
- instructional resources
-
differentiated lessons to cater for the range of students in each classroom
-
assessment adjustments which may include:
- small group supervision
- rest breaks during tasks
- extra time
- alternative presentation modes
- scaffolding
We know when a student needs help when:
- teachers notice changes in learning or behaviour
- reviewing assessment results and learning progress
- parents and carers raise concerns or ask for support.
